Year 8 Gifted & Talented Art Trip
On Thursday 2nd July a group of Year 8 students were lucky enough to be invited to visit Brighton Museum and see the current exhibition entitled 'The American Scene'. The first half of the 20th century was a period of great change in America, and the exhibition examines American society and culture through the prints produced by some of the most important artists of the time. It features around 80 outstanding prints by 56 leading modern American artists, including George Bellows, Edward Hopper, Grant Wood, Josef Albers, Alexander Calder, Louise Bourgeois and Jackson Pollock.

After looking at the exhibition students took part in a practical workshop where they investigated printmaking and produced prints based on some of the things that they had seen in the exhibition. For more photos, see Gallery

Year 11 History Trip to Ypres, Belgium
The Humanities Faculty has organised a trip to the Ypres Salient in Belgium on Friday 11th September 2009. Students will have the chance to explore the World War One front line town of Ypres as well as the surrounding museums, graveyards and battlefields of the First World War.The trip is open to all Year 10 students studying GCSE History. The GCSE course contains exam questions on Britain during World War One and coursework on the trenches so the trip to Belgium will prove very rewarding. The students will even have the chance to walk into preserved trenches, giving them the best idea of what life in the trenches must have been like.

Free swimming!
Did you know that if you are aged 16 years and under, you can swim for free at the following Brighton & Hove publicswimming pools?
B&H CC is taking part in the Government scheme for free swimming. It started on 1 April 2009 and will be available until March 2011.
In order to take advantage of the Free Swimming Scheme you will need to sign up and register your details to obtain a Free Swimming membership card. Registration is at the swimming pool reception desks.
For those aged 16 years and under the parent or guardian MUST come into the centre with the completed and signed form and child’s proof of age, ie original birth certificate or passport. The child must also be present as their photograph will be taken for the membership card. All those registered will receive a membership card which must be shown at each visit to allow access to the pool.
Those aged 60 years and over are also eligible. Again, registration and proof of age ie driving licence, pension book or passport is required.
Please see Brighton & Hove CC site for full details - including membership refunds where appropriate.
