A LEVEL ART & DESIGN

This course is intended for students who wish to continue with further studies in Art and Design and those who study subjects, or take up careers, for which an Art and Design background is relevant.
It is also suitable for those who, whilst having interest and aptitude in the subject, are not intending to take studies beyond Advanced Level.

Coursework
The coursework has a central role in the syllabus and occupies 60% of the course. We offer an unendorsed syllabus which involves studying and exploring a broad range of skills and techniques. Emphasis will be put on the use of the sketchbook, critical and art historical studies, drawing skills and information gathering. Students will be given the opportunity to study life-drawing at evening class which we will subsidise. As the course progresses students are introduced to a variety of practices including Painting, Printmaking and 3-Dimensional Studies, together with Mixed Media, Design and IT.

Year One AS 
1 unit of coursework (carried out in the first 2 terms)
1 terminal examination (externally set) - 8 hours duration.

Year Two A2
1 unit of coursework including a Critical/Historical Study
1 terminal examination (externally set) - 12 hours duration.

Opportunities are given for students to visit the Tate (Britain & Modern) and National Galleries in London, the Royal Academy and also other exhibitions where possible.
