A-Level Further Mathematics

A LEVEL FURTHER MATHEMATICS

This course is ideal for grade A students at GCSE who enjoy
the rigours of Mathematics and intend to study Maths or Physics at University.

The syllabus is very demanding, offering a broader view of both Pure and Applied Mathematics. Potential students on this course will also be studying A level Mathematics.

Year One AS

Unit 1  We study  further algebra, graphs of rational functions and conic sections, complex numbers, roots and coefficients of a general quadratic, sums of series, further calculus and numerical methods including general solutions of trigonometric equations, matrices and transformations  1 ½ hours written exam.

Unit 2  We study the mechanics of relative motion:  of two bodies, dimensional analysis, collisions in one and two dimensions, trajectories of projectiles and projectiles on an inclined plane  
1 ½ hours written exam.

Unit 3  We explore statistical analytic methods: numerical measures, probability, the binomial distribution, the normal distribution, estimation and confidence intervals, correlation and regression
1 ½ hour written exam
