Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Group meets on Thursdays 6:00pm - 8:00pm at the Village Centre.

The group has gone from strength to strength this year with seven students recently receiving their Silver Awards from the Mayor of Brighton & Hove at the annual D of E Presentation Evening held at Hove Town Hall.

While many of the group move on to the Gold Award a new Bronze group is starting in January at the Village Centre.

If you are in Year 9 or above and interested in joining, ring Nick Schildcamp on 01273 416838.

What does it involve?

There are four sections to the Award and you have to choose and follow an activity, for about 12 weeks, for each section.
The sections are:
Physical Recreation
Skills
Service in the Community
Expedition or exploration.
You usually start the award at Bronze level and can go on to Silver and finally Gold level.

By attending the DoE you can:
Get involved in new activities and new challenges.
Get involved with group or individual projects.. like creating a newsletter or video or planning adventure activities.
Join in our activities and workshops like sports, music, cooking, photography.
Learn new skills.
Take part in a residential activity.
Help others in your community or help to improve your environment.
Work towards gaining a nationally recognised certificate

You may already be doing things which can count towards the Award … like after school clubs or hobbies, playing for a football team or caring for pets …
You complete the Award at your own pace and we are around to help and encourage you.
The award shows people that you are the sort of person that can take a challenge and stick with it…it looks great as part of your Record of Achievement and CV ... it opens doors…to new experiences ... new friends ... fun activities ... adventure and challenge.
The Award is for ALL young people ...whether you are outgoing or shy, love sport or hate sport, go out a lot or stay in a lot ... Whoever you are there is something in the Award Scheme for you…all you have to do is get in touch…
