| The College Library computers
are available to students during the 'school' day for study purposes
only. You may use them to access the Internet for research or for
the Office 2003 programmes. There are some CDRoms
but at the moment I have no idea which ones will work. |
| If you wish to reserve a computer, just
complete the booking form in the morning writing your name in your
chosen break, lunchtime or after school 'slot'. |
| Basics |
| Log on with User Name and Password. This gives access
to Home Directories otherwise known as Z:Files. |
| To Log off click on the Start button and then on the
Log off command or use the Ctrl + Alt + Delete combination but do
NOT lock the pc. |
| E-mails may only be sent for study related purposes
in lesson time. Students wishing to e-mail friends etc should use
ICT facilities elsewhere in the College. |
| Work must be saved on the in the user's Home Directory
or on a portable medium such as a USB pen or floppy disc. Do not save
in My Documents or elsewhere on the C:Drive. I regularly clear 'My
Documents' etc of all unauthorised documents - and I am ruthless!

| Printing |
| Your ICT PRINT CREDITS are on the
front inside cover of your planner. They may only be used by you
for study purposes. They are not transferrable to a friend. |
Do NOT print until you have: •
checked Print preview • asked if it is OK to
print
• given your planner to the librarian on duty (open
on your PRINT CREDITS) or the necessary money according to current
charges. |
NEVER use the icon
or you may get more than you bargained for! |
| Always use the File and then the Print
command and, if necessary, specify the pages required. |
| They may not be used for photocopying. |
| Unused PRINT CREDITS may be carried through
to the following year. |
CDRoms |
| I'm not sure how many still work with
the upgraded system - let me know of any problems. |
See the title list below.
Users means the number of people who may use each one at a time according
to our licensing agreements.
If it says 'Disc', ask at the counter.
If it says 'pc' just double click on its desktop icon. |
| Many of these CDRoms have games. They are the only
games allowed on these workstations. |

| Viewpoint
- Online Public Access Catalogue or OPAC |
| The Viewpoint
terminal at the back of the library can be used to access the library
catalogue. It shows where a book is and if it is available - right
across Brighton & Hove. College items are listed as 'Portslade College
Library' and public library stock as 'Mile Oak Library'. |
| The Viewpoint terminal may
also be used to access borrower details, you need your College Libr@ry
Card number and your Libr@ry PIN . Your Library PIN is available
from the counter on production of a valid College Library Card and
1 piece of ID such as a planner. |
| Do not use the Viewpoint
terminal to reserve items on your College card. Always do this at
the counter. |
| Apart from the Viewpoint
terminal, the workstations at the back of the library are for public
use only. However, students may use them as members of the public
on Saturday mornings or in the holidays. It is advisable to book
in advance, particularly on Saturday mornings. |
