What is the Key Stage 3 Reading Challenge?
The KS3 Reading Challenge was set up with the English Department a few years ago. Our aim is to help you to improve your reading according to your ability - and to show you reluctant readers that reading fiction does not have to hurt! In fact, you are rewarded with a Highly Commended for every Reading Challenge book you read. Plus, a certificate is awarded for each completed Level.

Each Year Group has 3 Levels:
bulletBronze, which all students are expected to complete
bulletSilver
bulletGold.

Each Level has 5 categories (genres), including an 'Own Choice'. Click below for details:
bulletYear 7
bulletYear 8
bulletYear 9
RC Logo Look out for this logo!
If a new book has this logo on a slip inside the front cover, it can count as a category choice.
Reading Logs
This is your record all the books and other items, including magazines, you have read. You may wish to include your ideas, comments and thoughts about what you have read. These may be one-word comments, personal reminders to read the next in the series or remarks about a magazine article. For full details of how to set it out see Your Reading Log. You will be given a copy of this to glue in the front of your log.
Challenge Tasks
Although you do not have to write loads about every book you read, you will be expected to complete 5 Challenge Tasks over the year.
